Historical

Sarto is located just moments from local performing arts and convention centers in the historic Teste brownstone building. Originally built in 1860, our restaurant was once home to an apothecary, a money-to-loan business and later the Philip Wolfe Haberdasher, which inspired the name Sarto or tailor in Italian. This historic building and its interior have been preserved and designed to echo the restaurant’s overall concept – a contemporary presentation of old-world Italy, as influenced by its Rhode Island setting. The result is a novel dining experience patrons won’t soon forget.

Design

Artist and photographer, Marissa Geoffroy, consulted on the interior design and brand aesthetic for the restaurant. Vintage finds from Italy and Rhode Island fill the space, including real postcards and original vintage book pages. Marissa, an artist herself, also produced some of the paintings and photographs on display. Graphic designer Amanda Bowers Wong developed the visual branding and logo for Sarto. She has over fifteen years of experience in print design, experiential design, and branding. She is currently working as an independent Creative Director based in New York.
